Conservative Wiltshire Council unveils show flat at state-of-the-art extra care homes in Devizes

The creation of 47 state-of-the-art extra care homes in Devizes moved a step closer when the show flat at Needham House officially opened last week.

The £9m development, which includes more than £8m invested by Wiltshire Council, is on the former Southfield care home site on Victoria Road in Devizes. Work is expected to be complete by June this year.

Jonathon Seed, cabinet member for housing, said:

I was delighted to open the show flat for this development which is nearly complete and means our vision is becoming a reality. The show flat looks fantastic, and I was particularly impressed by the quality of the design, building and finishing. I would encourage people to have a look as it really does have the feel of a well-equipped flat in a community setting.

The scheme will have on-site care and support available for the residents, and the facilities will have a really positive impact on the wider community. It is a central part of our housing strategy that we encourage and help our more senior residents establish themselves in suitable housing that they can occupy for as long as they need it in their old age.

The scheme includes on-site care and support, and extensive facilities and services to benefit residents and older people across Devizes including a restaurant, a health and wellbeing suite, gardens and guest accommodation.

All the apartments will be in a modern design and help older people to live independently for longer with access to care and support as and when it is needed.

The Wiltshire Council-owned and run scheme will include homes for affordable rent and some shared ownership homes for sale.

The Homes and Communities Agency provided more than £1m of the £9m cost of the development.

A working group of councillors, local groups and representatives were involved in developing the plans, and MiSpace is developing the site on behalf of Wiltshire Council.

Anyone wishing to look round the show flat can call Humberts on 08452 411 388 to arrange a viewing.
