Meeting colleagues at Area Board
I really enjoyed my recent visit to the Devizes Area Board meeting on 21st July. I met with Cllr. Laura Mayes Cabinet Member for Children's Services and Cllr. Philip Whitehead Cabinet Member for Highways.
If I am fortunate enough to be elected as Councillor for West Selkley I shall be delighted, but I am also aware that the role of councillor brings with it a great deal of responsibility.
I am already working hard to learn more about the work of a councillor by attending a number of different area board and parish council meetings. I am also very grateful to existing councillors who are giving some of their time to talk to me about the job. If elected I want to be a really effective councillor from day one!
Area boards are a way of working to bring local decision making back into the heart of the community. They are a formal part of Wiltshire Council that work hard to find solutions for local issues such as road repairs, traffic problems and speeding in villages, litter, facilities for young people and affordable housing. By working in partnership with local communities, the council can achieve so much more than it ever could on its own.
Communities thrive when people get actively involved. Everyone is welcome to attend public meetings. Please feel free to talk to me if you see me at one of these meetings. I am really interested to hear about your local issues.
