Show home unveiled as 28 new affordable homes near completion

New affordable homes owned and managed by Wiltshire Council will soon be ready for occupation following the completion of a successful housing development in Trowbridge.

The council has invested £5m in a 28-home development at Southview Park which features a mix of affordable rent and shared ownership homes. These new homes form part of Wiltshire Council's commitment to increase the number of high quality homes across Wiltshire.

The development is nearing completion and people can now look around the show home and register their interest in the shared ownership properties.

Shared ownership offers you the chance to buy a share of your home (between 25% and 75% of the home's value) and pay rent on the remaining share. Later on, you could buy bigger shares when you can afford to.

The homes are a mix of two and three bedroom properties and will be ready for completion this winter.

They are part of the council's pledge to complete 180 affordable homes by 2020, investing almost £31m.

Richard Clewer, Conservative cabinet member for housing, said:

We know we need more affordable homes all over Wiltshire and we have responded to this need by investing more in our communities.

These homes are offering individuals choices of where they can live and work and I'm pleased that soon people will be moving in and making this new development their home.

A further 22 homes costing £4m will be created on the site and is due for completion early 2020. The second phase is funding secured for affordable housing through new developments, social care capital grants from central government and Homes England. The contractor Stepnell secured the tender to build both developments on the site.
