Work on new Malmesbury hub making good progress

Refurbishment work to provide a new community centre in Malmesbury, which will be a focal point for the local area, is on track and making good progress. The Wiltshire Council-funded Riverside Community Centre on Gloucester Road, will be a flexible hub for people to use for events, activities and working space. Work on the centre is well underway and is expected to be finished early in the new year. The investment into the centre is part of Wiltshire Council’s £80m health and wellbeing centre and hubs programme, which is improving local community facilities and helping to deliver services in more accessible and convenient places. The Riverside Community Centre will be managed by community charity, Friends of the Riverside, ensuring that it will be run for local people by local people.

John Thomson, Wiltshire Council cabinet member for communities, campuses and area boards, said:

“I’m delighted that our vision and commitment to invest to provide a community hub in Malmesbury is now a reality. It has taken a real collaborative effort with local people to get to this stage and when it opens I’m sure the new centre will quickly become a firm favourite within the local community. I’m particularly pleased that Friends of Riverside will be running the centre and their local knowledge on what people want from it will be a huge benefit.” For political comment: Conservatives: John Thomson - john.thomson@wiltshire.gov.uk
