About Darren

Personal and family background

Darren is married to Caroline and they have 16 year old twins. Following a long military career Darren and his family chose to make their home in Shrewton, Wiltshire.

He is not a career politician but is passionate about community engagement and would like to use his energy and experience to help get things done. Currently Darren is Chairman of Wiltshire Conservative Area Council.

Darren enjoys walking, which occasionally breaks into a canter, with their dog called Poppy. After years of playing rugby, he is fortunate to stay involved as a Rugby Football Union referee.

Council work

Darren is a on the Shrewton Parish Council where he has been a member of the Traffic Issues Working Group and now is the Military Liaison and also reports on the Village youth provision. He is a former Youth Panel Advisor for Andover Town Council. Whilst in the military stationed in Norfolk he was responsible for community support and was also the Forces representative on local councils and responsible for wider engagement. He developed the Community Covenant with Norfolk County Council which made a real difference to the lives of Service families.

Community work

Darren is Chairman of the Shrewton Youth Club. He was a parent governor at his daughter’s St Edmund’s Girls’ School in Salisbury. He organized and was a speaker at Service Children’s Conferences, the last one being in October 2014. He was a fundraiser with successful business cases and bids from charitable organizations including establishing a youth multi-use games area in Norfolk supported by the RAF Benevolent Fund. He organized and delivered successful community projects in nearby towns and villages to his many postings including when RAF Association Liaison Officer he led the RAF Farewell to Andover and Battle of Britain Memorial in 2009.
