About Deborah

I am a Trowbridge Town Councillor for Dursley and Drynham Ward and represent my residents on the Leisure Services Cttee and Museum and Tourism Cttee. I am also active in the Dursley and Drynham Residents Assoc. My current career entails teaching English as a foreign language, having set up my own business, and I am working for a degree in English Literature (finish May 2016)...

I am Grammar school educated, also with an Honours degree in American Studies and Politics, a Post-graduate Certificate in Management and the Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (C.E.L.T.A.). After graduating from University, I had a career in the Civil Service in the area of statistics and as a Trade Union Officer. I then set up my own business followed by six years in a caring role. I have now been teaching for ten years.

I was a very active Mayor's consort, 2013-14 and represented the town at numerous engagements. I have been involved with the Twinning Associations and have made links and visited all towns which Trowbridge is twinned with.

Active member of Breakthrough Homeless Trowbridge and distribute food etc to homeless at the soup run. I visit and help the vulnerable in the community through the St Vincent de Paul Society. Secretary and Treasurer of Trowbridge Women's World Day of Prayer. Reader for the blind through Trowbridge Talking News. Church reader and welcomer. Trowbridge Arts volunteer.

I am happily married to David with two cats, Twinkie and Blue. We have a large extended family with a rich heritage. I enjoy the theatre, watching horse competition events and football, reading novels and biographies, writing, and swimming.

I have caring Christian values combined with strong compassion for everyone, regardless of circumstances, born out of surviving hard knocks. I believe in protecting the vulnerable, and believe that my education and experience places me in a strong position to stand up for them. As a teacher, I believe in high standards of education. I remember struggling to get on the housing ladder and fully back affordable housing. I am a firm believer in the NHS and would like to see the best healthcare available to everyone. I firmly believe in equality, philanthropy, caring for our neighbours, anti-discrimination and family values.

I would be very happy to hear your views and concerns, so please email me on or ring me on 01225 754199 (answer phone). I will endeavour to respond to you within 48 hrs. If you would like to follow me on Twitter then please feel free, on @DeborahHalik.

Speeding is an issue in Lambrok Division, and I have gained a 20mph zone for Studley Green, working through CATG. I have also helped organise community volunteers to undertake a speed gun assessment of Cockhill, after submitting a metro-count which indicated cars had been speeding. Many residents are concerned about the green areas around Broadmead, and I have been liaising with Officers to ensure a healthy environment for us, including removal of fly-tipping. I have helped with local litter picks., and dealt with parking issues. I have also been ensuring some residents receive relevant care packages, and liaised with Selwood housing, taking part in Estate Inspections.
