My family have been ‘rooted’ here since the 1700s, which gives me a tremendous sense of the importance of the community and the history of the area. I was born in Savernake Hospital and went to school at St. Michael's in Aldbourne, and St. John’s in Marlborough...
After leaving education I worked on the family farm in Aldbourne and now I farm in Poulton, just outside of Marlborough. This is an arable and sheep enterprise, which has also diversified into tourism with a thriving B&B, through which we meet many interesting people from all over the world. My wife Deborah and our two daughters help in this family business.
What I do
I am passionate about the landscape in which we live, work and play, so I am fortunate to be a farmer. Currently I am Chairman of Marlborough NFU and Deputy Chair of Wiltshire NFU. This role enables me to connect farmers with decision-makers and lobbyists. I also have a keen interest in resource use. I am a founding member and Director of KCEL (Kennet Community Energy Limited). This is a new and innovative organisation, which aims to help fund local community energy projects.
I am also active as Vice-Chair of the newly formed Swindon & Wiltshire Local Nature Partnership. This aims to help manage the natural environment by bringing local people, organisations and businesses together, in order to be able to respond to the environmental challenges that lie ahead.
We are fortunate in this area of Wiltshire to have such a variety of cultural activities. My special interest is music - brass bands, in particular. Aldbourne Band was formed 153 years ago and I am proud to be the current Chairman of this highly ranked and successful band.
What I can do for you
I will listen to your views and concerns. Being a local person I can relate to village issues. I am very aware of the importance of working closely with and attending Parish Council meetings.
I believe that local politics should be about local people and would work hard to represent your views at County Hall.
I have been your Wiltshire Councillor for Aldbourne and Ramsbury since 2013. For me, it is a privilege and great opportunity to represent the villagers in the area where I grew up. I am very keen to hear your view on local and Wiltshire matters. If you have any concerns, questions or suggestions about Wiltshire Council, do please get in touch by phone or email.
