General Experience and Background
I have lived in Devizes since 1977 and I am married with two grown up children, both educated at Devizes School, and my home is in the East Ward. I was elected to the Devizes Town Council in 2002 and have served the East Ward as Town Councillor for over 14 years and as a Kennet District Councillor from 2003 to 2009.
I am also a member of the skateboard and BMX project for our young people, and am a volunteer for Link which provides lifts to hospital and doctor appointments for those without their own transport.
I have lived in Devizes for over 30 years and wish to see the town progress to greater levels. With your help and support, I want to improve the standards of service we have at present, and look forward to meeting you.
My political career started quite late in life, in 2002, on account of family and work commitments. When the opportunity arose for me to become involved in local politics by being asked to stand for the party in a by-election, I gladly accepted.
Current and Recent Work
Presently I am the Chairman of the Public Transport Review Board. For the last 12 months we have been evaluating the way forward for the transport situation in Wiltshire; this is ongoing.
I am also involved with the Waste Task Group, which has looked into the HRC operation in the county together with any changes in the way we try to eliminate fly-tipping.
I have been in constant contact with local services in the Town such the Nursteed Centre and local social clubs to assist them in any grant applications they may require. It is important to help in the success of these neighbourhood clubs, such as hearing loops for hard of hearing and improvement of toilet facilities in their premises.
Have assisted in the progress of the Boccia Club which enables those with severe disabilities to have a sport which they can play and enjoy. Boccia is similar to bouclé but with soft balls.
The one burning issue is to get the Urgent Care Facility underway in Devizes. We have been waiting for many years to get a facility in Devizes and we are told that a planning application is intended to processed in late autumn to get this long-awaited facility built.
The 20 MPH system is now finally approved for the area and will be in place by the end of the year, together with the replacement bus shelter for London Road. This is one of the many projects which have been achieved with hard work and help from both Wiltshire Council and Devizes Town council.
As always, I am available to assist in any way I can and my contact details are listed at the top of this page.
