About Richard

I have lived in West Lavington since 1999 and represented the Lavingtons for two years on Kennet District Council before becoming a Wiltshire Councillor in 2009...

I am currently the Portfolio Holder for Art, Heritage and Tourism. Tourism contributes over £1 billion every year to the Wiltshire economy and employs over 10% of the workforce. VisitWiltshire’s leading role in the Great West Way project should help this grow even more in the years to come. Among our many attractions are the World Heritage sites of Stonehenge and Avebury, many great houses, landscapes, canals, villages and some wonderful museums. Creative arts are evident in every part of the county.

I was formerly Portfolio Holder for Education, Skills and Youth and am pleased to report that almost all our young people go on to university or further education or apprenticeships or jobs so the number of young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) is very low.

I was also Portfolio Holder for Public Transport am now a Director of TravelWatch SouthWest, which represents the needs of rail and bus passengers across the region. I have supported the growth of the TransWilts rail service and possibility of a railway station at Lydeway to serve the Devizes area.

I am committed to representing the views and concerns of residents on local issues. Currently, I am working with residents and our MP to improve management of the Victoria Park estate by the Ministry of Justice. I am a Director of the Devizes Development Partnership which, inter alia, provides CCTV coverage in the town.

I actively support the work of the parish councils and write regular articles in the local parish magazines. I am Chairman of the Southbank Trust (a local charity), of Dauntsey’s Almshouses Charity and of the Lavington Track & Field Coaching Trust. I am a member of All Saints Choir.

I have lived in West Lavington since 1999 and represented the Lavingtons for two years on Kennet District Council before becoming a Wiltshire Councillor in 2009.

I am married to Sandra, who is a retired barrister. We have 2 grown up children.
